Thomas Grabner
- 2011 to 2013
Thomas Grabner is an architect and specialist in computational design with several years of practice and teaching experience . He holds a degree in Architecture, graduating with distinction from the University of Innsbruck, advised by Patrik Schumacher.
Grabner has lectured and taught design studios at the AA | Architectural Association, TKU | Tamkang University Taipei, AAG10 Vienna and was teaching assistant at PennDesign | University of Pennsylvania, SCI-arc | Southern California Institute of Architecture.
Beginning with his education in the HTL-Innsbruck Bautechnik (1993), he gained important practical experience in architectural competitions, concept design and construction planning. He had the opportunity to become acquainted with and cooperate with several architectural and planning offices in Austria, Germany, Italy, Luxembourg and USA (New York).
Together with her partner Thomas Grabner, they founded 2007 the collective [uto]. Their research focuses, along with the generation and analysis of complex geometries, on the development of formal strategies, data driven design approaches and generative structures, implementing and evaluating the physical matter of a design. They have been recognized for their development of digital tools, namely PhysX, Geco, Flowlines, MeshPaint and MeshEdit, which seek to improve workflow in a parametric environment. This is currently driving their development of digital tools to simulate situational, relativistic architectural prototypes to reveal orchestrated self-organization through situational contingencies of physics behavior.
